Hospital news | Friday, September 13, 2024

National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is Sept. 16-22. This annual observance celebrates the efforts of rehab professionals and focuses attention on the powers and possibilities of rehabilitation.

RiverView’s Rehab Services Department is staffed by 38 full-time, part-time, and on-call employees, including six occupational therapists, two certified occupational therapy assistants, nine physical therapists, one physical therapy assistant, six respiratory therapists, three registered polysomnographic technologists, five speech therapists, one nurse, one exercise physiologist, and four support staff.

The following are a few interesting facts about each department, shared by Rehab Services Director Caitlyn Michno.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Services

Did you know that our staff not only provide Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab services, but they also perform cardiac stress testing? Our Cardiac Rehab staff partner with Dr. Fashoro, Dr. Kanal, and radiology one day each week to perform chemical and treadmill stress tests.

Occupational Therapy

Did you know that our Occupational Health Team provides pre-employment services to 12 local businesses and two national workforce development providers? Each pre-employment test is specific to the job location and duties, which requires us to have unique testing equipment onsite, including: tires, sandbags, wheelbarrow, ladders, and wood pallets.

Physical Therapy

Did you know that our Physical Therapy staff are trained and/or certified in over 14 specialty services? Areas of specialty include: ASTYM, active release technique, blood flow restriction, functional dry needling, ImPACT concussion assessment and recovery, lymphedema management, myofascial cupping, Postural Restoration, TMJ dysfunction, and wound care.

Respiratory Therapy

Did you know that we have recently initiated COPD Education services? This program is designed to provide annual education, guidance, and support to patients who are managing their COPD diagnosis and treatments.

Sleep Lab

Did you know that our Sleep Lab now provides two types of home sleep studies? Our most recent addition, the WatchPAT® One is a single-use device that can be conveniently mailed to a patient and then disposed of following use. The data is instantly sent through the cloud to our Sleep Lab Team for interpretation.

Speech-Language Pathology

Did you know that our speech therapists can address memory loss and cognitive decline? Cognitive speech therapy develops treatments, including the training of compensatory strategies, to improve a patient's ability to perform attention, communication, concentration, orientation, and problem solving tasks.

Support Staff

No successful department is possible without valuable support staff. We are grateful for the scheduling services that Erika, Tammy, Jessica, and Amy provide for our rehab teams at the Crookston, East Grand Forks, Fertile, and Red Lake Falls locations.
