RiverView Health Laboratory Services provides STAT and routine clinical laboratory services for hospital inpatients and outpatients, clinic and other non-hospital patients, and non-RiverView Health providers. Anatomical pathology services are provided for RiverView Health providers.
Clinical laboratory services, including routine and STAT blood specimen collection, blood gas analysis, blood banking, chemistry, coagulation, endocrinology, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, serology, therapeutic drug monitoring/toxicology, urinalysis and clinical pathology consultation.
Anatomic pathology services are referred to reference laboratory, including interpretation and diagnoses on surgical and other specimens submitted for pathologist review, cytology, flow cytometry interpretations, histology and fine needle aspirations. Frozen Section service is available to support procedures performed in the RiverView Health surgical services department.
Frozen sections must be scheduled in advance.

Direct Laboratory Access
Direct Laboratory Access (DLA) is offered for those who desire to further monitor lab values between regular healthcare provider visits. If individuals have found that their insurance or Medicare coverage does NOT pay for a screening test or wants testing for a personal condition, direct lab access may offer that option. This service is not a substitute for ongoing healthcare with a healthcare provider.
DLA provides you with the opportunity to take a more active role in healthcare decisions by enabling you to select laboratory testing from a limited test menu. Payment by cash or check is made at the time of collection.
- A physician order is not required for these tests. The laboratory does NOT send results to physicians. The results will be sent directly to individuals, and they are encouraged to share them with their healthcare provider.
- No individual registration is required. DLA individuals go directly to the lab.
- A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18, except for pregnancy tests or emancipated minor.
- Payment in advance is required; there are no bills or insurance claims filed.
- Medicare, Medical Assistance and insurance do NOT cover DLA testing, since a healthcare provider did not order testing. Individuals may NOT submit a bill to their insurance carrier.
Tests and components
($25) This test determines what type of blood you have.
($12) Fat-like substance manufactured by your body to make cell membranes and hormones. When cholesterol levels are elevated, arteries can become clogged or narrowed.
($30) This panel includes cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and a calculated LDL. These measurements can provide more comprehensive diagnostic information for determination of cardiac disease. The test requires a 12-hour fast.
($10) This blood sugar provides the body with energy. An abnormally high glucose result may be an indicator of diabetes. An abnormally low glucose result may indicate hypoglycemia.
($10) Hemoglobin is the molecule responsible for carrying oxygen in red blood cells. Low hemoglobin may be an indicator of anemia, chronic bleeding or an iron deficiency. Elevated hemoglobin may be an indicator of bone marrow diseases, chronic lung disease, heart disease or thyroid disease. Abnormal hemoglobins should always be evaluated by your healthcare provider.
($16) A pregnancy test measures the hormone which is present in pregnancy.
($20) Tests for hidden blood in stool. This test requires three stool specimens collected over a period of at least three days. Dietary restrictions apply.
($40) PSA is a screening test for prostate cancer.
($30) Thyroid stimulating hormone is a hormone in the blood that stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete hormones. TSH is used to determine if thyroid disease is present.
($12) Triglycerides are fat-like substances that may increase your risk of heart disease. Requires a 12-hour fast.
($20) Protime/INR is used to monitor anti-clotting medications such as Coumadin which must be carefully monitored to prevent clots or excess bleeding.
($15) Hemoglobin A1C is a measure of diabetes control over the previous two to three months.
