What better way to check out a potential career than seeing it firsthand? That’s what RiverView Health’s annual Scrubs Camp is all about, healthcare professionals showing high school students the ins and outs of different career opportunities.

Registration is now open for the Aug. 6-8 camp. Area high school juniors and seniors are invited to sign up for the free three-day camp held on RiverView’s Crookston campus.

Scrubs Camp offers:

• Information on specific careers
• A look at different types of health careers
• Information on how to prepare for a healthcare career
• Help to decide what field to go into
• Opportunity to meet others with similar interests
• Chance to make contacts for the future
• An “edge’’ when applying for jobs, schools, or volunteer activities
• Hands-on experience
• Exposure to the hospital environment
• Fun

New this year, attendees will get to check out the new Mako robotic-arm that Dr. Brennen Smith will soon begin using for assistance in his joint replacement program for knees and hips.

Many opportunities await healthcare professionals. According to a survey by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations now to 2032. About 1.8 million openings are projected each year, on average, in healthcare occupations due to employment growth and the need to replace workers who leave the occupations permanently.
