Karla Steinbrink Named RiverView's December 2020 Employee of the Month

Karla Steinbrink, Customized Living Coordinator/RN Case Manager for RiverView’s Home Care Department, is described as “a quiet presence that provides a huge impact.’’ That “huge impact’’ recently led to Karla being named RiverView’s Employee of the Month for December 2020.
Karla has been with Home Care since November 2016. She graduated from Northwest Tech-Bemidji with her LPN in 2010 and her RN in 2012.
A native of Clearbrook, MN, she and her husband Justin and son Finley (1) reside on a small farm near St. Hilaire where they raise alpacas. In her free time, she likes to travel and spend time outdoors kayaking and snowshoeing. She also loves to cook, garden and do crafts.
“I’m honored to be named employee of the month,’’ she shared. “I was definitely surprised by this. I enjoy working at RiverView, this is a great organization. Beyond that, the Home Care Team has become family. It’s a blessing to work with such talented nurses, aides, and therapists that all have the same goal to provide the best possible care for our clients. We have an awesome team here at Home Care and Customized Living.’’
The following comments were made in Karla’s honor: Karla exhibits kindness and caring for all our clients throughout every day. She never hesitates to go above and beyond to help our clients in situations of need. Examples include going to the grocery store to pick up food necessities when a client doesn’t have money or means to obtain what they need, or making a special mask for a client with a disability. When the annual Thanksgiving meal was cancelled due to COVID, she began arrangements to prepare a COVID-friendly meal on her own so our clients wouldn’t miss out on the event. Her “outside the box’’ thinking spearheaded an alternative option so everyone could participate. For Christmas, she organized a contact-free gift-basket event for our clients.
Karla takes her role and responsibilities as our Customized Living Coordinator to heart. She’s always watching out for our clients’ best interest and leads the services provided for our clients with professionalism and fairness. She’s respected by the staff and clients of this service and has an outstanding ability to balance the needs and expectations of both. She’s able to maintain positivity in the day-to-day challenges by focusing on facts and avoiding the drama. Karla leads by example by volunteering when there’s a request or need and is sincere in her commitment to excellence. She is always seeking methods to improve outcomes and practices and was instrumental in reducing medication errors within our department through her insight and application of best practice procedures. Karla is always willing to participate in committee work and provides honest, insightful feedback. She has a quiet presence that provides a huge impact.
