Brenda Nordlum is RiverView’s Employee of the Month for July

Brenda Nordlum, Environmental Services (EVS), is known for her compatibility with RiverView patients and their families. She’s also received praise for always being conscientious of patient safety. For those reasons and many more, Nordlum was recently named RiverView’s Employee of the Month for July!
The Crookston native has been an aide in RiverView’s EVS for the past 15 years. She has one daughter, a son-in-law and three grandchildren. In her spare time, Nordlum enjoys refinishing furniture, thrift store shopping, crocheting, and embroidering dish towels.
“I was very surprised and I do very much appreciate getting this recognition,’’ Nordlum shared. “I enjoy coming to work each day, because each day is different and that brings new challenges . It is important to me to make a connection with my patients, to hopefully help them to feel welcome and comfortable while
in our care.’’
Below are a few of the comments given in Nordlum’s honor:
“I have known Brenda for five years now. Ever since my first encounter with her, she has not only displayed RiverView’s Standards, she has lived them. She is always kind, willing and looking out for our patients’ safety. She is thorough in her work, and is often willing to go above and beyond.
“This past week we had a very busy census and had three late discharges in rooms that potentially could have taken
admissions. Brenda came into work at 4:30 PM to clean those rooms for us. Later that night, it lead to us keeping a
patient from our community here in Crookston. It was an ICU bed that was needed, and because of Brenda we were able to admit the patient.
“I don’t think Brenda fully understands the value she brings to our RiverView Team. Brenda is excellent at noticing patient safety concerns and she takes appropriate actions to resolve them. She has an amazing ability to gain trust and establish a rapport with patients and families. We are all blessed to have her. She is valued and appreciated. All our patients and team benefit from who Brenda is!’’ - Annie Waldal, Inpatient Unit
