Certifications and Licensures
Choosing your doctor is a big decision. We are pleased to offer four very qualified and experienced physicians. As family practitioners, they can guide you through pregnancy and birth, then continue on to care for your newborn and your family throughout life.
 
Dr. Rolf Hanson has been a mainstay of the medical community since coming to Crookston in 1979. He received his undergraduate degree from Luther College Decorah, Iowa, and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota medical school in Minneapolis. He performed his internship and residency in Chicago. Dr. Hanson sees patients at Altru Clinics in both Crookston and Fertile. He and his wife have four children.
 
Dr. Erik Kanten has been practicing medicine in Crookston since 1988. He attended undergraduate school at Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota medical school both in Minneapolis. His residency in family practice was through the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He is a private pilot and also spends time at the RiverView clinics in Fertile and Red Lake Falls. Dr. Kanten and his wife have four children.
 
Dr. Nasser Kazmouz completed his family practice residency at Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies in June. He is a graduate of Aleppo Medical School, and has worked in pediatrics, surgery, and neurology during residency rotations at Wayne State University in Detroit, Markham Pediatric Health Center, Hospital of Sick Children and Sunny Brook Hospital, all in Toronto, Ontario.
 
Dr. Debra Bell has practiced family medicine in Crookston and in the states of California and Vermont. She is a graduate of Brown University and completed medical school at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine. She has studied extensively in the areas of herbology, homeopathy and nutritional medicine. She did family practice residency training in Denver, Colorado, and Augusta, Maine. She has also lectured on natural medicine and published articles on natural health topics in professional journals. She and her husband have two school-aged sons and live in Crookston.
 
Dr. Aliya Shamsi received her M.B.B.S. degree from Khyber Medical College in Peshaar, Pakistan in 1993. Dr. Shamsi continued her medical education at Aga Khan University Hospital, completing an internship, internal medicine residency, a research assistantship, a research fellowship and then served as a resident medical officer. She completed her family practice residency through the University of North Dakota Bismarck Family Practice Program. She also completed a residency in internal medicine, a community health clinic and research assistantship at Aga Khan University Hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan.
