Dr. Collin Fennell joined RiverView in August of 2003 as the 1st employee of RiverView Orthopaedic Clinic. He is a native of Edmonton, Alberta. He received his undergraduate degree and attended medical school at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He did his internship at Misericordia Hospital and his orthopedic residency at the University of Calgary, where he was honored with awards for outstanding intern, and family practice resident with the best clinical and therapeutic skills. He completed a fellowship in upper extremity orthopedic surgery from Calgary General Hospital and Foothills General Hospital in Calgary. He also completed a clinical fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, California in rehabilitation orthopedics and sports medicine. Before entering general practice, he was a ship’s doctor and consultant for Epirotiki Cruise Lines in Greece. He began general practice in Edmonton, and later he became the chief of orthopedic surgery for the adult brain injury service of Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center. For six years, he was on the orthopedic staff of Foothills Hospital in Calgary. During this time, he was a director for five years for the Association for Rehabilitation of Brain Injury. He came to Grand Forks to Altru Health System in 1999. Fennell has also served as clinical assistant professor of orthopedics for the University of Southern California, University of Calgary and the University of North Dakota. He was orthopedic section chief for Altru Health System while employed at AHS. He is a fellow in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a member of the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Orthopedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North Dakota Medical Association. Fennell has published many articles in orthopedic journals and made scientific presentations to peers on innovations in fracture repair and other topics. His techniques have been the subject of several videotapes developed for orthopedic education. He has chaired many orthopedic conferences, the most recent being a conference at the University of North Dakota on orthopedic trauma care for primary care practitioners. Dr. Fennell joined the Riverview Orthopaedic Clinic in August 2002. He is a member of the medical staff at Riverview Healthcare Association.
