Dr. Idatonye Afonya is a general surgeon. He received his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1970. He completed his internship and residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Dr. Afonya completed fellowships at Tufts University Medical Center, Boston; Baystate Medical Center, Springfield; and Albany Medical College, Albany, New York.
Dr. Afonya practiced medicine in Park River, North Dakota from 1980-1989. From 1990 to 1994 he practiced at Schoharie County Surgical Associates in Cobleskill, New York. Dr. Afonya moved to Crookston in 1994 when he began his practice at Northwestern Clinic (currently Altru Clinic, Crookston). He has been a member of the medical staff at Riverview Healthcare Association since that time.
Dr. Afonya is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons in general surgery and performs all types of major surgery, including laparoscopic procedures.
